Geer Farms Service's Inc., 1920 to Present
In 1920, Lewis P. Lance purchased a general store from Jennie Hickox, widow of Charles Hickox. In 1943 when L.P. Lance died, the business was purchased by daughter Marion L. Geer and became known as H&M Geer. They continued running the grocery store, coal and feed sales and hauling can milk. "Ray" as it's still called, was on the DL&W Railroad line.
In the years before 1943, the farmers would bring their milk to Ray Station where it was picked up by the train everyday. While there, they would visit the general store for groceries and hardware needs. After 1943, the milk was picked up by truck and taken to Buffalo daily. Coal and feed were still a major part of the business.
In 1958, H&M Geer was renamed to H&M Geer & Sons when Norris and Earl were officially made partners in the business. Then in 1960, H&M Geer & Sons was renamed to Geer Brothers. Then in 1974, the business was incorporated as Geer Farm Services, Inc. The business is now run by Earl and Ruth and their two sons, Kevin and Jeff, also officers in the corporation. Norris, though retired, is still a valued employee of the company.
The goal at Geer Farm Services, Inc., is to continue to serve and advise the farmer with his planting needs by keeping abreast of the ever-changing Ag technology, and providing lawn seed to beautify consumer home landscaping.
